Honeycrisp Apples

The most popular apple has arrived!
Yellow-green background with red to pink blushes on the skin, with its firm flesh that’s a lovely balance of sweet and tart.

Recommended for: Preferred for raw dishes like garden or fruit salads, or even thinly sliced on sandwiches. Also, baked into crisp or pies, peeled and slow cooked for applesauce, preserves, or apple butter.

Northern Spy Apples

Large very-late season apple known for its unique shape, yellow and juicy flesh that’s tart to taste.

Recommended for: Widely known for being a great pie apple, or used in tarts or cobblers. Can also be prepared fresh in salads or slow cooked to a puree.

Cortland Apples

Medium-Large apples with bright red skins and green blush that has a crisp, juicy flesh that’s got a faintly sweet flavor.

Recommended for: Wonderful for fresh preparation due to its resistance to browning when exposed to air. Ideas include: sliced on sandwiches, or as a replacement of crackers for dips and cheeses.

Jonathan Apples

Medium-sized apple with a distinct red skin, crisp creamy-colored fresh that is sweet to taste with notes of tartness and spice.

Recommended for: Though the flesh is known to  break down when cooking, its use in moderation is great for mixing with firmer apples in pies or slow-cooked dishes. Especially good for adding moisture to cakes and bread pudding.

Crispin Apples

Large green-skinned apple with a sweet-tart flavor. Also known as a Mutsu, but not to be confused for a Granny Smith.

Recommended for: Fantastic for eating fresh as well as baking into pies and cakes

Red Delicious Apples

Highly recognizable “Teacher Apple” known for its deep red skin, five bottom bumps, and mild flavor with floral aroma.

Recommended for: Shines in fresh applications like green and fruit salads, as well as serving with sandwiches and burgers.

Jonagold Apples

A cross between the Golden Delicious and Jonathan apples, the Jonagold has a pale green skin with orange-red coloring, along with crisp, juicy flesh that’s sweet-tart to taste.

Recommended for: primarily used in desserts like pies, muffins, cakes and tarts, but also great in sauces and jams.

Empire Apples

Bright red, medium-sized apples, with white lines and hint of green blush. Flesh is juicy and crisp that has a great blend of sweet and tart.

Recommended for: prepared fresh for coleslaw or even a chicken salad. Also great for roasting, baking, or sauteing and pairs well with warmer spices and sharp cheese.

Juji Apples

Wildly popular, gorgeous apple with a seemingly iridescent skin. Flesh of the Fuji is crisp, dense, and very juicy.

Recommended for: Absolutely fantastic for cooking, as its sweet flavor holds up well, especially in strudels and crisps. The thicker skin of the Fuji also allows for good roasting, baking, and sauteing.

McIntosh Apples

Popular apple that’s available in our market or as U-Pick out on the orchard. Bold magenta and green stains on the skins with a soft flesh and tart flavor.

Recommended for: prepared in sweet or savory dishes, both raw and cooked. Since the flesh is quite soft, only mild cooking is recommended, as it breaks down easier. Cooked dishes work best by mixing with firmer varieties such as Fuji or Granny Smiths.

Gala Apples

Wildly popular apple with a yellow/orange skin and highlighted with pink-to-red striping based on maturity of the fruit.

Recommended for: all-around wonderful at fresh preparation such as fruit and garden salads, fresh salsas, sliced onto hot sandwiches or paninis. Can also be cooked with mixed with strongly-flavored apples such as a Granny Smith variety.

Due to a fantastic crop this year, we have utility apples available in front of the market for you to bag and take home. They may not look as pretty as the rest of our apples, but they’re just as tasty and fantastic for cooking!
